June is designated as Dengue Awareness Month by Proclamation No. 1204  (DILG). Dengue fever remains a significant health concern in the Philippines. Dengue mosquitoes are active throughout the day, with peak biting times between 6AM-8AM and 4PM-6PM. These mosquitoes breed in stagnant water found in various containers like storage tanks, flower pots, and discarded items.

What are the symptoms of Dengue?

Recognizing dengue involves identifying specific symptoms and confirming the diagnosis through medical tests. Key symptoms include:

The 4S’s to Prevent Dengue To prevent dengue, practice the 4S strategy:

  1. Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites: Eliminate stagnant water in containers around your home.

  2. Secure self-protection measures: Wear long clothing and use mosquito repellents.

  3. Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas: Cooperate with local authorities to reduce mosquito populations.

  4. Seek early consultation: Consult a doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of dengue.

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you experience symptoms of dengue, especially if you live in or have recently traveled to an area where dengue is common, see a healthcare provider immediately.
