Mental Health

Mental Health at Work

Mental health is how we think, feel, and handle stress at work and at home. It is as important as physical health. Filipinos commonly present with depression, anxiety, stress-related complaints, and suicidal thoughts or attempts, but these often appear first as physical symptoms, “pagod,” or behavioral changes rather than explicit mental health complaints.

Reach out to Someone when…

In the last few weeks, you have noticed that you are:

  • Feeling sad, empty, irritable, or “numb” most days

  • Always tired, “burned out,” or dragging yourself to work

  • Headaches, body pains, chest tightness, or poor sleep with no clear cause

  • Losing interest in work, hobbies, or time with friends and family

  • Trouble focusing, making decisions, or meeting deadlines

  • Avoiding people, meetings, or calls

  • Thoughts like “I’m a burden,” “I’m a failure,” or wishing you wouldn’t wake up

What You Can Do for Your Mental Health

  • Talk to someone you trust (family, friend, or colleague).

  • Consider seeing a doctor, psychologist, or counselor.

  • Support yourself with basics: enough sleep, regular meals, movement (walks, stretching), and short screen breaks.

Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

When It’s an Emergency

Seek urgent help (go to the nearest emergency department or call a crisis line) if:

  • You are thinking about harming yourself or someone else.

  • You have a plan or have already tried to hurt yourself.

Philippine Mental Health Hotlines

  • In Touch Crisis Line – (02) 8893-7603 (24/7) / +63-919-056-0709
