Philippine Heart Month

February is recognized as Philippine Heart Month every year, according to Proclamation No. 1096, which was adopted on January 9, 1973 (National Nutrition Council, 2023). This declaration aims to raise awareness of heart disease among Filipinos as a critical and developing health problem. It is a time and reminder to focus on the importance of heart health.


Am I at risk of developing heart disease?

You may be at risk if you have any of the following health conditions:

  • High cholesterol

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetes

  • Kidney disease

  • Obesity


You may also be at risk if you subscribe to/ are exposed to any of the following lifestyles:

  • Smoking

  • High alcohol intake

  • Diet composed of high intake of red meat, sugars and fats

  • No to minimal physical activity

  • High stress levels


Then you may be at risk of developing a heart disease.


How to lower my risk of developing heart diseases?

  1. Quit smoking

  2. Limit alcohol intake

    1. For females - no more than 1 drink a day

    2. For males - no more than 2 drinks a day

  3. Increase physical activity

    1. Walking or running at least 30 minutes 3-4x per week is good for overall health

  4. Keep a healthy body weight

    1. Compute body mass index (BMI) to determine if you’re within the recommended target

  5. Find ways to manage stress

    1. Yoga

    2. Breathing exercises

    3. Meditation

  6. Take medicines as prescribed by doctor

    1. You may be prescribed cholesterol-lowering, blood sugar-lowering, and blood pressure-lowering medications. Adhering to these medications, coupled with regular monitoring can significantly decrease your risk for heart disease

If you want to ensure that you have a healthy heart, you may also avail our Health Monitoring Package and get checked. For only Php 700, our HEALTH MONITORING PACKAGE includes tests for cholesterol profile, BUN, BUA, fasting blood sugar and creatinine.


HOME SERVICE

A minimum of Php 200 home service fee will be charged per household for home service. Message us with your location to confirm the final rate.
